How Pressure-Based Drainage Works (And Why It's Changing the Game)

For decades, drainage infrastructure has operated on a simple assumption: water flows downhill. Build a slope, lay some pipe, surround it with gravel, and let gravity do the work. But what happens when there is no slope? What happens when the terrain is flat, when the problem area is already the lowest point, or when a gravity-based system slowly clogs and fails?

The Gravity Problem

Gravity-dependent drainage requires a minimum slope to function — typically 1% or more. On flat sites, urban properties, and low-lying areas, this slope either doesn't exist or can't be engineered without significant excavation and regrading. Even on sloped sites, the system fails the moment gravel fills with sediment or pipe crushes under load.

How Pressure-Based Drainage Works

Hydro Fix operates on an entirely different principle: hydrostatic pressure. When water enters a Hydro Fix plank, it fills the internal void structure. As pressure builds, water is pushed laterally into the next plank — and the next — creating continuous horizontal flow without any slope at all.

Why This Changes Everything

The pressure-driven mechanism means Hydro Fix can be installed completely level — no slope engineering, no complex grading calculations. It works on flat suburban lawns, urban hardscape edges, sports fields, and commercial parking lots where traditional systems simply cannot function.

And because the internal structure is a tight interwoven matrix — not open gravel or perforated pipe — there is nothing for sediment to clog. The system that goes in on day one is the same system that performs on year twenty.

Real-World Performance

Projects consistently show faster dry times after rain, elimination of standing water in formerly ponded areas, no system failures over time, and lower overall project costs compared to traditional drainage methods. Whether managing stormwater from a parking lot, drying out an athletic field, or protecting a foundation, pressure-based drainage delivers results that gravity systems cannot match.
